Anonymous use
Every input you enter — debt amount, salary, interest rate, tax rate, living expenses — is processed client-side in your browser. If you are not signed in, nothing is sent to our servers and nothing is stored anywhere. Refresh the page and it is gone. That is by design.
Signed-in accounts
If you create an account, we store data to make the tool useful across sessions. Specifically, we store:
- Your email address — from your sign-in (used for account communications and, if you opt in, the monthly digest).
- Saved scenarios — the full calculator state you choose to save, including debt amount, salary, specialty, repayment strategy, and PSLF settings.
- Profile data — specialty, career stage (student / resident / attending), estimated debt, estimated salary, IBR recertification date, and graduation year. This is built up automatically as you use the calculator and can be edited in your dashboard.
- AI Co-Pilot conversations — if you use the AI chat feature, your conversation history is stored so the AI can maintain context across sessions.
- PSLF payment tracking — if you use the PSLF tracker, your payment records are stored in your account.
- Net worth snapshots — annual debt snapshots taken automatically when you run the calculator, used to show your year-over-year progress in the dashboard.
- Usage counters — how many scenarios you have saved and how many AI conversations you have had. Used internally to understand product usage.
Your financial data is never sold or shared with third parties. It is used solely to power the features you signed up for.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people use the site — which pages are visited, which calculator features are used, and how users move through the tool. Analytics data is aggregated and not tied to your name or email. We do not fingerprint individual visitors.
Advertising
We have applied to serve ads via Google AdSense. If and when approved, AdSense may use cookies to personalize ads per Google's partner-site policy. You can opt out at Google Ads Settings.
Partner communications
If you create an account, we may occasionally send you information about vetted financial products relevant to physicians — such as loan refinancing options, disability insurance, and physician mortgage programs. These are products we believe are genuinely useful to our audience. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email or by contacting us at hello@medschooldebtcalculator.com.
Cookies
We use essential cookies required for the site to function (authentication session, preferences) and analytics cookies as described above. No marketing-retargeting pixels are currently active. If AdSense is approved, advertising cookies will apply.
Your rights
If you are in the EU, UK, or California, you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. To request deletion of your account and all associated data, email hello@medschooldebtcalculator.com and we will process your request within 30 days. Anonymous calculator inputs cannot be deleted because we never had them.
Data retention
Account data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your profile, scenarios, and conversation history are deleted. Aggregated, anonymized analytics data may be retained indefinitely.
Business transfers
If MedDebt is acquired by or merged with another company, or if we sell or transfer all or a portion of our assets, user data held in our systems — including account profiles, saved scenarios, and conversation history — may be transferred to the acquiring entity as part of that transaction. We will notify registered users by email if a material change in data ownership occurs, and any acquiring party will be required to honor the commitments made in this policy.
Changes
If we ever change how data is handled, we'll update this page and bump the “Last updated” date. Material changes affecting signed-in users will also be announced by email.
